Rehab Medical is proud to celebrate 20 years of service, innovation, and unwavering dedication to improving the quality of life for individuals with mobility challenges. Since its founding in 2005, Rehab Medical has been a beacon of hope and support for more than 230,000 individuals, providing them with custom mobility solutions that empower independence and confidence. This milestone marks not just two decades of growth and success but also a profound commitment to our mission: delivering the best medical equipment and unparalleled customer care.

For our employees, this 20-year anniversary is a testament to their hard work, passion, and dedication. Every team member—from customer service representative to clinical specialist—has played a vital role in shaping the compassionate and innovative culture that defines Rehab Medical. This milestone serves as a moment of reflection and celebration, acknowledging the collective effort of our workforce to push boundaries and create meaningful change in the lives of those we serve.

For our patients, this milestone is a reaffirmation of our promise to remain their trusted partner in mobility and care. Over the years, Rehab Medical has continually strived to offer cutting-edge technology, expert guidance, and personalized solutions tailored to each individual’s unique needs. Our 20 years in business symbolize our enduring commitment to placing the customer at the heart of everything we do, ensuring that they receive not just a mobility product, but a pathway to greater freedom and possibility.

For our partners, celebrating 20 years of service reflects our shared commitment to transforming lives and setting the benchmark for customer service excellence. We have continuously made strides in advancing our innovative technology to empower our partners. Through these advancements, our partners have been equipped with the tools they need to clearly and confidently assist patients with obtaining mobility equipment through their insurance. This anniversary also highlights our continued dedication to ensuring every patient receives the care and support they deserve.

When I joined the company, it was during the time the original business branched off into two companies with different focuses. Rehab Medical changed its core product offering and a new corporate infrastructure was needed.

My experience in healthcare management and my thirst for a challenging opportunity was what attracted me to Rehab Medical. I was also fortunate enough to work alongside Patrick McGinley, a great leader who has a clear vision of what he wants and an unwavering drive to lead us there. Despite the challenges we faced we knew we were building something great that would impact so many lives down the road.

Annually, we host a Conference for all employees to attend. It’s meant to educate, celebrate, and align everyone towards success. This is where I get to personally witness how our determination to fight through the challenges made a positive impact. We get to witness the type of culture we’ve created when employees take the Annual Conference as an opportunity to rekindle or make lifelong connections.

Now 20 years later, I am proud to see how our commitment to our mission, having a growth mindset, and being very intentional about what we are trying to accomplish has impacted so many lives in a positive way. I truly believe we are improving lives, and we can continue to make an immense impact on the lives of our patients, partners and employees.

When I joined the company, I just wanted to get my foot in the door to a career in medical sales. My girlfriend at the time, now my wife, just closed on our house on a Friday and I accepted my role the very next Monday.

My plan was to gain 2-4 years of successful sales experience and then parlay that into a higher-level sales role. Given my competitive mindset, I was also looking for the opportunity to compete on a level playing field. The fact that Rehab Medical’s new corporate infrastructure was built on a competitive edge, I knew this would be an opportunity for me to compete and stand out from the rest.

As the company began to grow, there was constant change and evolution, something that excites me because I’m always on the move, never wanting to be the same or stagnate. My success of becoming the company’s first regional sales manager, director of sales, vice president of sales, and finally chief sales officer is predicated on caring about my craft and taking each position seriously. I know I can’t achieve goals, build territories, and see growth without developing good leaders with the same mindset of being successful.

Over the last 20 years, I’ve witnessed the company go from 4-5 offices to more than 30 offices nationwide, convert from a standard durable medical equipment (DME) company to a very successful CRT company, and the vast career growth opportunities we’ve been able to provide. I would venture to say that growing people’s careers has been the best part of my career journey at Rehab Medical. I’m proud of our 20-year accomplishment and I can’t wait to see how high and how far we can push our growth trajectory over the next 20 years.

In 2005, I was just looking for a job to pay my bills. I never imagined this would become my lifelong career. The experience I’ve gained over the last 20 years is immeasurable. We’ve built a great team of leaders and individuals who are extremely passionate about improving lives.

As I watched our company go through its many growth stages, from being a standard mobility company to a nationwide CRT company, we’ve been able to transform the CRT industry. A lot of that is due to us not only wanting to provide individuals with life-improving equipment but also wanting to redefine the entire process of how individuals go about getting equipment.

In earlier years, the process of getting custom mobility equipment would take months to years. This can be detrimental to those who are really in need. Due to my passion for helping those who’ve been through unfortunate circumstances and need mobility assistance, especially our youth, I decided to get my ATP certification. Being the company’s first ATP was challenging because it wasn’t just about getting a certificate to do custom fittings, it was about building out a completely new foundation.

However, through this challenging adventure, me and my team have been able to implement processes that shorten the process and allow us to build the right mobility solution for the individual in need.

As we look to the next 20 years, we’ll be focusing on creating better outcomes, removing barriers when it comes to servicing equipment, and providing unparalleled experiences. We don’t want to simply supply wheelchairs anymore; we want to make connections and create lasting memories with those we serve.

For two decades Rehab Medical has provided custom mobility solutions designed to help individuals regain their mobility freedom. As a company who models servant leadership, Rehab Medical focuses on the needs of its customers to tailor its equipment and service to their unique needs. Over the last two decades, the company has evolved its servant leadership philosophy to become one of the nation’s largest complex rehab technology (CRT) companies in the nation.

2005

Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Patrick McGinley opens first mobility office, specializing in motorized wheelchairs, manual wheelchairs, hospital beds, and orthotic braces.

This certification allowed him to analyze the technological needs of people with disabilities and help them select and use adaptive devices customized to their unique needs.

2012

Rehab Medical shifts its focus from standard mobility equipment to CRT and rebrands as Rehab Medical. Kevin Gearheart joins as Chief Operating Officer. Rehab Medical opens its first corporate headquarters after tripling its office space from 7,000 square feet to 20,000 square feet.

Rehab Medical opened an office in Mobile, Alabama, to span its reach across 10 states.

2016

2018

Due to Rehab Medical’s rising success, the company hired its 200th employee in its effort to provide additional support for its rapid growth. In that same year, Rehab Medical was named Indianapolis Business Journal’s Top 25 Fastest Growing Companies following a 65% growth rate from 2015-2017. This growth allowed the company to carry out its improve lives mission, hitting its first massive milestone of 100,000 patients helped since opening in 2005. During this period of rapid growth, Gearheart also helped establish the Core Values Program, an employee-to-employee recognition initiative designed to celebrate those who embody the company’s mission and empower leaders in reinforcing its culture.

2019

In February of 2019, Rehab Medical was named one of Indiana’s Best Places to Work by the Indiana Chamber of Commerce. It marked the first of multiple Best Places to Work accolades received by the company in subsequent years.

2020

Despite economic challenges brought on by COVID-19, Rehab Medical continued prioritizing patient care by advancing its innovative technology, expanding its sales and service team, and establishing Rehab Express, a parts warehouse to offset delays caused by resource shortages. As a result, Rehab Medical was named to the Inc. 5000 Fastest Growing Private Companies in America, hired its 50th ATP, and solidified its position as the third-largest CRT provider in the nation

2022

CEO Patrick McGinley is named Midwest Entrepreneur of the Year. This award recognizes the world’s most influential entrepreneurs. McGinley was selected out of 34 nominees for his dedication to building an organization that not only focuses on bettering the lives of the people his company serves but also on bettering the lives of the people his company employs.

2024

Rehab Medical was selected as the 2024 award recipient due to its commitment to improving the lives of its patients, partners, and employees.

At Rehab Medical, we view our “improve lives” mission as more than just helping those regain mobility freedom. We take it one step further and build relationships with those we serve. We believe the only way we can truly impact someone’s life is to understand their needs and wants. Our dedicated team of mobility experts have been able to build solid relationships with those we serve; so we are not only providing them with mobility, but also giving them a new sense of freedom and independence.

Jessica’s Experience with Rehab Medical

“My child needed a non-motorized custom wheelchair owing to increasing difficulties with mobility following a severe and relentless case of juvenile arthritis. Since he didn’t need to use it exclusively, I had doubts about whether it would be approved at all; at the very least, I’d been cautioned by other parents to expect an exhausting 2-year long odyssey.

We were so fortunate that his referral was sent to Rehab Medical, though! The entire process was incredibly fast - around 4 months total, at least 2 months of which was due exclusively to our asking to reschedule several appts a few times. There were no denials from insurance. (I credit Rehab for this, because his physician had never before prescribed a wheelchair for any patient).

The team they sent to evaluate him collected all possible rationales they could use to justify the wheelchair. And they did so sensitively, too - without making my son feel in any way deficient. I could tell what their questions meant, and I could see them taking note of certain factors - but my son was none the wiser about ways in which his physical performance was “failing.” As a mom of a seriously ill child, that kind of sensitivity in healthcare professionals is rare. It’s also something I truly value.

My son went from feeling somewhat ashamed of needing a wheelchair to being so excited that he went to class and bragged to everyone about his amazing new wheelchair! I personally witnessed the other kids, filled with envy that my little boy had gotten such a swanky piece of equipment - as though he’d appeared with the coolest new bike in school, rather than a wheelchair (!).

At every stage, the team was flexible and friendly. When I had to cancel appts - including at the last-minute owing to illnesses - they were friendly and flexible. I thought they might give up - I could imagine other companies not calling back after I’d rescheduled twice at the last minute. But they never acted put out, even though I’m sure we had inconvenienced them. Instead, they wished us well and followed up via text and phone call a few days later.

I only have great things to say about them. My son has 55 doctors and therapists. That means that we are, unfortunately, true connoisseurs of experience with the vast spectrum of providers out there. Rehab Medical was one of our most pleasant experiences of the last few years. In fact, the experience was so lovely that I have now been insisting my daughter’s wheelchair referral be switched to them. THAT’S how great an experience it was!”

Jeff’s Experience with Rehab Medical

Young couple, Jeff and Holly, were out celebrating their graduation from college when tragedy struck. While on their way back home they were involved in a near fatal automobile accident. Both were rushed to the hospital where Jeff went through emergency spinal surgery. Shortly after this surgery, he suffered from an aneurysm that left him completely paralyzed.

After reaching out to the Rehab Medical team, Jeff connected with Assistive Technology Professional (ATP) Chris Oder and in a few short months, Jeff had his mobility freedom back.

“Chris and the Rehab Medical team helped us regain mobility and freedom by guiding us through the process of identifying all of Jeff’s available options and then fighting for us to receive them,” said Holly. “Chris’ advocacy and patience with Jeff led us to a life of opportunity, freedom, independence and most importantly… it granted me the gift of being more than just a caregiver to Jeff. He made it possible for me to be a wife & best friend.”

Not long after Jeff received his life improving wheelchair, he and Holly traveled to Utah with a couple of friends to help Jeff achieve his dreams of paragliding over the mountains.

“We got to fly in the sky together for three straight mornings,” said Holly. “We were toast by the end of that trip. But the chair he received from Rehab Medical made this trip possible...so thank you all again for all your help in making a difference in Jeff's life and in mine.”

Juan’s Experience with Rehab Medical

In partnership with Sam’s Wish, a not-for-profit organization, Rehab Medical’s leadership team took a personal interest in helping this young boy regain his mobility freedom. Juan was suffering from cerebral palsy, and his condition was progressively worsening. The Sam’s Wish team connected with Rehab Medical’s Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Patrick McGinley. Determined to improve this amazing little boy’s life, McGinley and the Rehab Medical team stepped in to offer support.

A few short months later, Juan was presented with a custom-fit manual wheelchair by McGinley and Rehab Medical Vice President of Operations Jarrad Rankin, as well as Heather and Sam McNew from Sam’s Wish.

“Thank you to Patrick McGinley and Rehab Medical for supporting Juan,” said Sam’s Wish representative Heather. “Sam’s Wish is incredibly grateful for your donation to this amazing little boy. Your gift is making a huge difference in his family’s life. We are so fortunate to have caught the attention of people like you with generous hearts.”

Juan’s wheelchair has given him a new sense of freedom and independence allowing him and his family to enjoy the little things like playing outside, going to church, and the endless supply of smiles and laughs.

“We are truly grateful for Sam’s Wish and Rehab Medical for making this a reality,” said Juan’s mother Marcel. “Juan’s new chair helps him out a lot with his physical stability while he’s doing daily activities at home and at school. We’re grateful the chair helps facilitate his transfers and we no longer need to carry him all the time.”

While we pay tribute to the founders of Rehab Medical, we’d also like to honor select leaders in the company who have helped pave the way for Rehab Medical to be so successful.

Our Regional Vice Presidents of Sales, Ryan Commings, Jason Neu, Paul Martin, and Kenneth Flaming have spent most of their career at Rehab Medical helping to build out the sales process and create better efficiencies to allow Rehab Medical to reach this 20-year milestone.

We’d like to share a few words from each member on what their journey has been like and how they’ve been able to make a positive impact on the company and its surrounding communities.

When I joined Rehab Medical, I hoped to get my foot in the door in medical sales and start building a resume. Little did I know I would find a home and a purpose-driven career that has given back more than I could have ever expected.

Given that I have a personal passion for providing others with the same or better opportunities than I was afforded, Rehab Medical has allowed me to give back while scaling professionally.

As a leader, I have the privilege of being able to put people first, and because of this, I’ve been able to consistently help others develop successful careers. I take great joy in being able to impact someone’s quality of life, whether it be patient or employee. I will always be part of the Rehab Medical family because of the people the company serves, the team I serve, and the purpose of Rehab Medical is what fuels me.

I have been fortunate to be part of the Rehab Medical family. I joined the company in 2008 right after I graduated from college. I knew I wanted to get into pharmaceutical or medical sales. I started out as an inside sales representative and have been subsequently promoted to take on more responsibilities.

This company is one of the few companies that provides opportunities to those who work hard. That’s the reason I’ve been with Rehab Medical for more than a decade.

Now as a regional vice president of sales who has held almost every sales position in the company, I am able to provide firsthand guidance to my team so they may achieve the same success as I have. I want my team to know that if we all work together and share the same vision, we can continue to have a positive impact on many lives for another 20+ years.

I’ve been with Rehab Medical for 14 of its 20-year existence and I have loved every minute of it. Because this company focuses so much on growth and opportunity, I’ve been fortunate to watch people I’ve hired thrive and forge careers they’ve always dreamed of having.

Our leadership team has done an incredible job to help establish us as one of the best CRT companies in the nation. Due to their dedication to our mission and clear vision, I am confident we can continue building a team full of individual success stories for the next 20 years to come.

When I started my journey at Rehab Medical, I was fresh out of college and looking for a job that would provide me with valuable experiences and opportunities for growth. I am very lucky to have found Rehab Medical where I have been able to accomplish this.

As a company, we prioritize our people and the relationships they build. We do this because we believe the most successful people are surrounded by great leaders.

Now as a regional vice president of sales, I am proud to not only have been able to make my dreams a reality but also to help those starting their Rehab Medical journey achieve great success as well. If we continue having the mindset of investing in our people and believing in our mission, I am confident we can continue building upon what we started 20 years ago.

We are strongly committed to engaging in philanthropic initiatives because they are synonymous with one of our main core values, compassionate. Additionally, engaging in the community outside of providing wheelchairs allows us to take our mission of improving lives a lot further.

Over the last 20 years, this initiative has been one of the primary drivers of why individuals continue to select us as an employer and provider of choice.

“As an organization, giving back to the community is a privilege and we enjoy working for a company that encourages giving back,” said a Rehab Medical employee. Each year our team participates in FedEx’s plane pull event where we have the opportunity to not only get our fellow coworkers involved in giving back but to also have our family members supporting us and our initiatives. It’s just an incredible experience. We are all honored that Rehab Medical gave us the opportunity to change the lives of those we were serving and to show our families what it means to positively impact the lives of others.”

Over the years, the company has supported more than a few dozen not-for-profit organizations nationwide. To date, Rehab Medical has donated more than $150,000 to organizations such as Servants at Work (SAWs), the Indiana Special Olympics, American Foundation for Suicide Prevention, Second Helpings, The Young Men’s Christian Association (YMCA), Nubability Athletics, and Firefly Children and Family Alliance- (formerly The Children’s Bureau).

Additionally, Rehab Medical employees volunteer their time with these organizations to fulfill the improve lives mission. Each calendar year, the company gives employees eight hours of volunteer time off (VTO) where they can choose to solo volunteer at an organization of their choice or volunteer with their teammates to promote relationship building. To date, the company has paid out more than 1000 volunteer time off (VTO) hours to employees.

As we look to the future of Rehab Medical, we can say one of the secret sauces to our success comes from the talented individuals we have, their mindset of putting the mission above all else, being fully aligned with our plans, and understanding why we do what we do.

Each year, we get together to create a very intentional growth plan for the company. It’s typically centered around the ‘why’ behind what we’re doing and how we can effectively engage the right people at the right time in the process.

We start by reviewing our current structure for areas of improvement, meticulously analyzing our data to find opportunities for growth, and understanding that there are times we’ll have to make changes based on the situation, structure, and the people we have.

Our goals are very aggressive, and we understand as we strive to achieve these goals challenges will arise, however the confidence in our team to get through those challenges is reassuring and leaves us hopeful for the future.

If you have an inspirational story about how Rehab Medical improved your life over the past 20 years, please email marketing@rehabmedical.com or follow us on social media and send us a private message.

To our patients, partners, and employees; thank you for your dedication and unwavering support over the last 20 years. We certainly could not have made it this far without you. We look forward to serving you and improving more lives for the next 20 years to come.
