At Rehab Medical, we are committed to not only improving the lives of the patients we serve but also advancing the careers of professionals dedicated to complex rehab technology (CRT). One of the key ways we accomplish this is through our ATP Prep Program, a comprehensive training pathway designed to prepare employees for the highly regarded Assistive Technology Professional (ATP) certification.
What is the ATP Prep Program?
The ATP Prep Program is a specialized training curriculum created to meet the unique needs of Rehab Medical’s team members. Developed in partnership with industry expert and certified occupational therapist Rusty Mattingly, who has been with Rehab Medical since 2017, the program helps participants build the clinical knowledge necessary to pass the RESNA ATP certification exam and excel in delivering customized mobility solutions to patients.
The program began in Kentucky and has since expanded nationally, helping Rehab Medical increase access to specialized care, especially in underserved rural areas where complex rehab technology providers are limited.
The ATP Prep Program offers a flexible, blended learning format that allows participants to gain the skills and knowledge they need while balancing their existing job responsibilities. Key components include:
Self-Study & Virtual Training: Over the course of three months, employees participate in guided self-study paired with virtual training sessions. Led by Rusty Mattingly, these live sessions are held twice weekly, providing opportunities for interactive learning and direct mentorship.
Eligibility Requirements: Candidates must meet educational and patient care experience requirements to sit for the ATP certification exam. For example, candidates with a high school diploma or GED need 6,000 hours of patient contact, while those with a bachelor’s degree need at least two years of direct patient experience. Continuing education (CEU) credits are also part of the process, with recommended courses offered through partners like VGM Education.
An ATP certification is not only a critical credential for delivering life-changing mobility solutions; it’s also a career accelerator. ATPs play a vital role in ensuring patients receive the right equipment for their unique needs, and certified employees at Rehab Medical gain access to increased earning potential.
At Rehab Medical, we’re proud to support our employees’ educational and professional development. That’s why our Tuition Reimbursement Program, which can provide financial support towards pursuit of educational goals, is available immediately; there’s no waiting period for employees pursuing an ATP certification.
